本日ご紹介するのは

1996 Gretsch USA Custom Shop G6120-1955 (Orange)です。

 

実は普段はグレッチを弾くタイプの人間ではないということを先に申し上げておきます。

セッツァー・スタイルでもアトキンス・スタイルでもないし、ハコものを弾くこと自体正直あまりありません。

それでもこのギターには手に取ってみたいと思わせる何かがあったし、それは間違ってはいませんでした。

 

この一本はまずとても生鳴りがとても乾いてます。

ハイよりのシャリっとした成分が気持ちよく、ビグスビー特有のやや金属的な倍音が一役買っています。

ぼくは個人的にグレッチであれES-335であれこういう少々固めの鳴り方をするハコものが好みなので、余計楽しめました。

 

ただ、感心するのはまだ早かった。

アンプに繋いだら更に楽しかったです。

 

ピックアップはディアルモンドのダイナソニックが載っており、これが生鳴りの良さをもっと引き出してくれる印象でした。

ストラトやテレのような線の太さこそないもの、ビグスビーのややゆるいテンションが巻き弦に独特のパチンというアタックを与えてくれます。

 

アンプのセッティングを間違えるとハイがキンキンしすぎてしまうかもしれませんが、ちゃんと使い方を間違えなければしっかり乾いた音質はそのままに、なかなかエネルギッシュに歌ってくれます。

 

想像以上に幅広いジャンルの音楽の中で使えそうな一本です。

My pick for today is…

1996 Gretsch USA Custom Shop G6120-1955 (Orange).

 

I do have to admit I am not the kind of player who would use a Gretsch.

I don’t play much of the Setzer or Atkins kind of style. I don’t even play hollow-bodies that often.

 

With that said, there was something about this guy that made me want to pick it up, and I have no regrets.

 

This one has a very dry resonance unplugged.

It’s got a good amount of harmonics on the treble end, and the Bigsby is definitely doing its part with its unique metallic overtone.

I personally like this kind of resonance in a hollow-body, whether its a Gretsch or an ES-335.

 

Plug this thing into an amp and things get even more exciting.

The DeArmond Dynasonic pickups don’t take away the goodness of the body resonance.

They don’t have the fat grit you hear in good Strats or Teles, but they do have that Gretsch twang.

 

The dryness is still there, and they can get a little trebly if you mess up your amp setting, but if you can dial it in the sweet spot, this thing sings.

The Bigsby’s rather loose feel of the strings (especially on the lower wound strings) gives me a good spank, and this is what I enjoyed the most.
