【Staff Pick!】2009 Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt ’59 Stratocaster Relic by Jason Smith (Sea Foam Green)

2009年製 Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt ’59 Stratocaster Relic by Jason Smith (Sea Foam Green)です。

Hello friends!

My pick for today is…

2009 Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt ’59 Stratocaster Relic by Jason Smith (Sea Foam Green)

There are Strats in a lower price range that sound good enough for use, and then there are Masterbuilt Strats that sound the way only Masterbuilt Strats sound. This one’s a good example.

Built by Jason Smith and loaded with Abigail Ybarra pickups, this guitar has a tight harmonic range. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean to say it’s tamed. The harmonics are focused in a certain range, giving the single notes good punch and fatness while still having enough sparkle to give the notes some edginess.

The pickups themselves are not very hot, so there is still a good airiness. The bridge position has a good quack without being overly bright. A lot of times Strat players rewire the tone circuit to make tone control available for the bridge position because they want to roll off that treble frequency, but with this one, no need.

The neck and middle positions are fat yet still maintaining tightness in the low-end, and with this solid tone, the out-of-phase positions sound don’t sound thin either. A very, very usable and musical instrument indeed.

The dark black color of the rosewood fingerboard and the rather subtle but cool looking flame maple neck all add to the mojo of this guitar.

This is not a typical Strat you would see every once in a while. This is one of those “something else” kind of Strat.
