本日ご紹介するのは

2013年製 Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt ’61 Stratocaster Relic by John Cruz (Ice Blue Metallic)です。

 

ぼくのお気に入りです。

でもどうせまたすぐにお別れする事になるんだろうとは思います。

 

カスタムカラーのアイスブルーメタリックフィニッシュはレリック加工によってやや緑がかった色味になっていて、経年の色灼け具合が見事に再現されてます。

レリック・マスターともいわれるジョン・クルーズ氏により製作されたものだし期待値はもちろん高くなりますが、やはりさすがだと言わざるを得ません。

 

ジョン・クルーズ氏のギターは傾向としてローミッドがパワフルなものが多く、これもまた然り。

 

さほど厚さを感じない’61スタイルのネックということもありフロントで弾いてもローがすっきりとしていて、SRVのようなゴリっとした太さこそないものの、温かみすら感じるローミッドとシャリンと綺麗に鳴る高音域の倍音が非常に心地良いです。決してブライトでギラギラしている訳ではありません。素敵。

 

この楽器において際立っているのはそのサステインの質。

先程触れたローミッドはこのサステインに住んでいます。

アタックの後を追って情報量の多い倍音が膨らんでいく様は上質なレスポールのそれと似た感覚です。

 

リアで弾いてもこのギターは高音域が立ちすぎない分相対的に気持ちいいオープンな中域が出てくれます。

 

このルックスとサウンドとなると、これはジョン・クルーズ氏の傑作と言っていいと思います。

My pick for today is…

2013 Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt ’61 Stratocaster Relic by John Cruz (Ice Blue Metallic).

 

Here’s my new favorite Strat in the shop right now.

I’m sure I’ll be saying good-bye to this one pretty soon, but man I’m glad I had the chance to play it.

 

The custom-color Ice Blue Metallic finish has been reliced to show a greener tone, much like how a vintage might look.

You can’t really expect anything less from relic master John Cruz, but he’s obviously still at the top of his game.

 

John Cruz’s guitars often have a powerful low-midrange, and this one is no exception.

With a slightly thin ’61 neck, the low-end is clear when played on the neck pickup.

Not exactly the huge and gritty SRV low-end, but the warm low-midrange and shimmering overtone all make up a great sounding axe.

 

What’s special about this one is the sustain, and the harmonic detail of this Strat is something worth noting.

I’ve talked about the low-midrange, and the sustain is where it all dwells.

The dense and juicy sustain follows and blooms after the attack, similar to what you might find in good Les Pauls.

 

Even in the bridge positions where the treble frequencies tend to be somewhat harsh, this guitar has a great quack that feels very nice.

 

With this great look and tone, I would call this one another masterpiece from John Cruz.
