【Staff Pick!】2016 Fender Custom Shop Limited Edition 60’s Telecaster HS Heavy Relic (Lake Placid Blue/Blue Flower)

2016年製 Fender Custom Shop Limited Edition 60’s Telecaster HS Heavy Relic (Lake Placid Blue/Blue Flower)です。

Hello friends!

My pick for today is…

2016 Fender Custom Shop Limited Edition 60’s Telecaster HS Heavy Relic (Lake Placid Blue/Blue Flower)

Multi-layer goodness at its most.

Blue Flower covered up in Lake Placid Blue? Looks great to me.

The aged tone of the Lake Placid Blue is just right so it’s basically a really good looking Lake Placid Blue Tele with the flower pattern peeking out from a few places to add a little sugar.

You might have noticed in the pictures that the controls are installed backwards with the control knobs placed neck side and the toggle switch placed on the bridge side. If you ride the volume a lot like I do, this really comes in handy.

I’ve always loved the look of Teles with a humbucker on the neck position (Albert Collins is the first guys that pops up in my mind), but never quite came across a usable one. Until now.

You might not expect an EVH Wolfgang humbucker to be thrown in to a Tele, but that’s what it is, and it sounds very nice.

Humbuckers in a Tele’s neck position often sound a little muddy or lack clarity, but this one sounds very balanced from treble to bass frequencies with enough snap to feel the Tele-ness even with a humbucker. What’s even more appealing is that a push/pull pot has been installed in place of the regular tone pot so you can coil-split the humbucker.

Not everyone is a fan of coil-splitting, but the tone is actually very usable. The tone is not thin or flimsy at all. As a matter of fact, it’s very musical.

Since the volume of the neck pickup matches nicely with the handwound Twisted Tele single-coil in the bridge position, the middle position sounds fantastic. Thanks to the coil-split, you can either mix the bridge pickup with the neck pickup in both humbucker and single-coil configuration. You should try it out. I’m loving it.

With all this said, there is no way the bridge pickup won’t sound good. There’s that quacky midrange found in 60’s Teles without the excessively harsh treble, and it is because of this that the middle position sounds as good as it does.

This is one impressive Tele here, and you’re not going to see many of it
