【Staff Pick!】LsL Instruments Zuma (Wine Red)

*English follows!

LsL Instruments Zuma (Wine Red)です。

LsL Instruments

Hello friends!

My pick for today is…

LsL Instruments Zuma (Wine Red)

Based in Santa Clarita, California which is a little north Los Angeles, LsL Instruments are known for their quality vintage-style guitars.

Founder Lance Lerman was in love with vintage instruments.

The problem was these guitars were a little too pricey, and he couldn’t afford one (we’ve all been through this right?).

Most of us would just give up and look for some other nice playing guitar, but Mr. Lerman thought otherwise.

He decided to build a guitar himself that has a vintage feel and tone.

And what do we have here? He sure did a great job.

The Zuma is obviously LsL’s rendition of a Les Paul Junior Double Cutaway, but with a few tweaks.

It’s got a volute to reinforce the headstock joint (it’s a one piece mahogany neck so there really isn’t a joint, but you know the story) and they have their own method of setting in the long tenon neck joint to improve body resonance.

The aging job done on this thing looks great with the finish checking seen throughout the body.

The aging work is another thing LsL is known for, this Zuma shows you why.

It’s never too much like we see on some aged guitars with the paint scraped off from odd places.

The neck feels great in my hands with a not-too-thick but not-too-thin profile.

It’s somewhat close to the early 60’s 335s before the nut width became narrow.

With only one P-90 pickup on the bridge position, Les Paul Juniors and this Zuma are a model of simplicity.

The pickup is made by LsL (they pretty much do everything by themselves) and has a warm midrange that gives you plenty of juice.

It is very musical and has enough body to the tone and sounds full. It sings!

I wouldn’t really want to put anything else on this axe.

Come see for yourself here at Nico-Nico Guitars!
