本日ご紹介するのは

Gibson Custom Shop 2016 Historic Firebird V (White)
海外ではファイヤーバード・フライデーなんてのがあるくらいですから、ファイヤーバード好きなぼくとしては今日はここぞとばかりに選びました。

ファイヤーバードがどれだけ好きかって、ぼくも一本持ってるくらいです。

 

今回のこのホワイト・フィニッシュのものはジョニー・ウィンターが使ってて見覚えがある方もいらっしゃるかもしれません。

 

このカスタムショップ製のものは、レギュラーラインのものや、ぼくが弾いたことがある何本かの65年製のものに比べてもネックがかなり太い。

 

このネックが特に巻き弦にドシッとしたローを足し、ミニハムバッカーの明るい特製と相まって広いレンジで音が出てくれます。

そこにマエストロ・テールピースの金属的な倍音が加わり、これぞファイヤーバードというゴリッとした音が生まれます。

 

これは個人的な趣味ですが、ぼくはファイヤーバードを半音から1音下げたチューニングで弾くのが好きです。

こうするとミニハムの特性がさらに押し出されてよりパワフルに感じます。

 

ただでさえファイヤーバードはステージ映えするのに、これまた白ときたもんだから注目度は抜群でしょう。

My pick for today is…

Gibson Custom Shop 2016 Historic Firebird V (White)

 

I know today’s a Friday, which means it’s Firebird-Friday.

I love Firebirds, so much that I own one myself.

 

Now here’s a white one that Johnny Winter has been seen using.

 

These Custom Shop-made ones have pretty fat necks, especially compared with the regular line ones and some of the vintage ’65s I’ve had the pleasure of playing.

 

This neck gives an extra low-end to the wound strings, giving the tone a wider range.

And this low-end is what gives this Firebird that grit that Firebirds are known for.

 

The combination of minihumbuckers and the Maestro tailpiece adds a little metallic shimmer.

 

I personally like to tune Firebirds down a half to whole step.

What this does is it brings out the awesome character of the minihumbuckers.

 

Holding a Firebird on stage will definitely gather some attention, especially a white one.
