本日ご紹介するのは

2011 Gibson Custom Shop Historic SG Custom VOS (White)。

 

白のSGカスタムを見ると、バディ・ガイのI Was Walking Through the Woodsというアルバムのジャケットでバディが61年辺りと思われるサイドウェイ・ヴァイブローラ付きのものを弾いている姿が映っていたのを思い出します。

 

ぼくはバディの感電しそうなくらいのエネルギー溢れるプレイが大好きで、数年前に生で観れたのは大きな財産です。

彼は昔から主にストラトを弾いていますが、結局のところ彼の音は彼の手の中にあるような気がしてしまいます。

どんな楽器を弾いてもバディはバディの音です。

 

そんなこんなで、今日の一本。こちらはストップテール仕様ですが、そこはお許し下さい（笑）

 

ピックアップはバーストバッカー。

低中域がパワフルで、サステインの中にも倍音がたっぷり。

バディのトーンとは違いますが、どの道バディの音はバディにしか出せないということですね。

 

特に良さを感じたのはミドルとリア。

がつんとコードを鳴らす、あるいは太いリードトーンが欲しければこの2つのポジションがいい気がします。

 

ネックグリップはSGスタンダードに比べるとやや厚みがあり丸み帯びているように感じます。

このおかげもあってこのギターは音の押し出しが強いのかもしれません。

My pick for today is…

2011 Gibson Custom Shop Historic SG Custom VOS (White)

 

When I see a white SG Custom, it reminds me of Buddy Guy playing what looks to be a ’61 with a Sideways Vibrola on the jacket of I Was Walking Through the Woods.

 

I’ve always loved Buddy’s electrocuting tone, and I had the pleasure of seeing him live once several years ago. He has always been a Strat player, but you know what, it’s all in his hands.

Whatever instrument he plays, what you’re hearing is nothing but Buddy.

 

Anyways, that links me to this white SG Custom. It doesn’t have the Sideways Vibrola or any kind of tremolo unit for that matter, but oh well.

 

This one is loaded with Burstbuckers.

A powerful low mid-range with plenty of harmonics in the sustain.

Not exactly the Buddy tone, but who cares no one can get that tone anyways right?

 

The middle and bridge positions in particular has a lot of juice.

If you want big chunks of chords or good fat lead tones, either of the two is where you want to be on this axe.

 

It’s got a slightly thicker and rounder feeling neck profile compared to SG Standards, which is another reason why this guitar has good projection.
