本日ご紹介するのは
2009 Gibson Custom Shop Historic 1960 Les Paul VOS (Iced Tea Sunburst)です。
’60スタイルのレスポールを紹介することはあまりないですが、この一本は痒いところに手が届く感覚があるのでご紹介します。
では’58や’59年スペックと何が違うのか。
一番大きな違いは’60のネックの形状は50年代に比べかなり薄いという点です。
さすがにSGほど薄い訳ではないですが（ナット幅は同年代のSGと同じですが、SGよりはもう少し丸みのある形状)、普段フェンダー系を弾き慣れている方からすると王道の50年代のレスポールはネックがちょっと太いと感じる方も多く、そこで’60のレスポールが選択肢に浮上する訳です。
しかしながら、ネックの形状と体積がここまで違うとやはり出音にも影響します。
’60は体積が少ない分、50年代のものに比べ低音域が少々すっきりします。
バンド環境によっては特にフェンダー系やシングルコイルから持ち替えるとどうしても低音域の膨らみがネックになりがち。そういった意味でのバランスの良さを持ち合わせているのが’60と言えるのではないでしょうか。
そうは言っても、結局はレスポール。
ちゃんとレスポールらしいサステインはあるし、レスポールの良さがちゃんとあります。とても扱い易い楽器だと思います。
特に’59年というのはネームバリューがあるので漠然と”良いものだ”と思いがちですが、結局が楽器ですしプレイヤーそれぞれの好みや用途があります。
’60はやや影に隠れがちですが、これはこれですごく使える楽器ですよ！

2009 Gibson Custom Shop Historic 1960 Les Paul VOS (Iced Tea Sunburst).
I don’t always post ’60 Les Pauls, but when I do, it’s good.
So, what’s different from ’58s or ’59s?
The biggest difference is that ’60 LPs have a way slimmer neck than the classic Bursts.
Not as slim or wide as SGs (nut width is the same but the shape still has the roundness), but a lot of players who are mainly Fender players don’t like the fatter neck shape of Gibsons, so they tend to go for ’60 Les Pauls.
The tricky part is the tone.
The difference in neck shape definitely affects the sound, and the ’60 Les Pauls don’t have as much low end like the 50’s Les Pauls.
Sometimes that low-end of Les Pauls become a little tough to handle on stage with other instruments blasting simultaneously, and that’s when the ’60 Les Pauls come in handy.
Since this one is “still” a Les Paul, it has that sustain unlike SGs which have a lot less, so it’s a good balance. Very easy to work with.
It’s a very nice guitar indeed.
