本日ご紹介するのは

2013年製 Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt Telecaster QMT NOS by Jason Smith (Pink Trans)です。

 

一目見れば忘れられないルックスのテレキャスターの入荷です。

トランスピンクカラーのキルトメイプルトップにフレイムメイプルネック、さらにはローズウッド指板にブロックインレイと特徴しかありません。

マスタービルダー、ジェイソン・スミス氏によるこの逸品、やはり見た目だけではありません。

重量わずかに2.85kgと超軽量。これはチェンバード構造になっているからではありますが、ボディトップにメイプルを貼っている分、思いの外パキっとした生鳴りがありそういった意味でのテレらしさは健在です。さすがはビルダーもの、この辺りもよく考えられていますね。

ピックアップはフロントが’51 Nocaster、リアがTexas Specialが載っていて、両方ともアビゲイル・イバラ女史によるハンドワウンドです。

出音はなかなか活きがよく、近年求められるようなプレイスタイルには持ってこいなのではないでしょうか。アンプやペダルをあまり選ばず、驚くほど幅広い対応力を感じるのでメインギターの有力候補にもなり得ると思います。通常のテレキャスター同様のシンプルな操作性、そしてこの見た目からは想像がつかないくらいの高い実用性があり、こういう楽器にぼくは一番惹かれます。まさに機能美。

My pick for today is…

2013 Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt Telecaster QMT NOS by Jason Smith (Pink Trans)

 

Here’s an immediately recognizable Tele with a gorgeous quilted maple top in transparent pink color and flamed maple neck. The rosewood fingerboard has block inlays and 22 medium-jumbo sized frets. What can you say?

Built by Masterbuilder Jason Smith, you can expect a few good things from this guitar.

This thing is amazingly light weighing just under 6.3 lbs. The body is chambered, but because of the maple top, it’s got a uniquely bright body resonance that maintains the Tele-ness even with this body construction. Pretty cool!

 

The pickups are both handwound by Abigail Ybarra, a Texas Special in the bridge and ’51 Nocaster in the neck position.

The tone is pretty lively and would go well with modern play styles, especially if you have a rig with various colors on your palette. Very pedal-friendly and surprisingly versatile, this one has the potential to be the go-to guitar for sessions. Despite its unique look and simple controls, I can feel practicality in the tiny details, and that’s the kind of guitar I’m most attracted to. Masterbuilt for a reason!
